This book features the proceedings of a seminar held on 18-19 February 1993. The seminar consisted of twelve invited papers, and a number of offered posters presented in an interactive session. All major papers have been subjected to peer review and are arranged in this book under four sections: reviews and case studies of Irish marine and freshwater systems; studies of the conservation value of selected aquatic organisms; the major impacts that may constrain conservation; and, approaches to conservation as evaluated by government and non-governmental agencies.
