This second edition of the “McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Geology and Mineralogy” is a major revision of this trade edition of the relevant content in the “McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms” (based on the sixth edition). It contains approximately 9000 entries, each accompanied by a pronunciation guide. This volume differs from the “Dictionary of Earth Sciences” in that it focuses on minerals, rocks and the morphology of the Earth, as well as the processes shaping it. Coverage includes terms in the fields of: physical geology; historical geology; mineralogy; marine geology; plate tectonics; petrology; sedimentology; and stratigraphy. The entries are supplemented by conversion tables, explanations of scientific, technical and mathematical notation, tables with properties of rocks and minerals, as well as tables with other useful information and historical data. The dictionary thus aims to allow the user to keep pace with the expanding language of science and the proliferation of highly specialized terms and acronyms.
